What it is
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with one small addition: benzyl alcohol.
That addition keeps microbes dormant, so the same vial can be opened more than once.
Research Use Only (RUO). For laboratory research only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Research context
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with one small addition: benzyl alcohol.
That addition keeps microbes dormant, so the same vial can be opened more than once.
It is the most common reconstitution solvent for most lyophilised peptides in the laboratory.
Its advantage is reuse: when a vial is meant to be drawn from several times over time, the bacteriostatic element limits contamination.
It does not suit every molecule. Some 'difficult' peptides dissolve better in a mildly acidic solvent.
Benzyl alcohol is a substance with known limitations; that is why the choice of solvent is always made for the specific molecule and purpose.
Used to reconstitute lyophilized peptides prior to laboratory use, and for dilutions where a preserved diluent is required so that multiple withdrawals from the same vial are possible.
Research Use Only. Laboratory consumable. Not intended for human or veterinary use, nor for injection into humans or animals. This is not a medicinal product.
